Proclamation honoring the life, memory and legacy of Ferdie Sauer.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the life of the late Ferdie Sauer, a dedicated husband and father, who passed away on December 2, 2020 at age 85; and
WHEREAS, Ferdie was a devoted husband to his wife, Henrietta for 62 years and together they had four children, seven grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, a resident of West Mifflin for over forty years, Ferdie dedicated his life to public service; and
WHEREAS, Ferdie displayed remarkable fortitude and passion towards protecting and serving others. He became a Life Member of Gill Hall and West Mifflin #2 Volunteer Fire Departments, and an active member of Duquesne Annex Volunteer Fire Company for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, as an active member of Duquesne Annex Volunteer Fire Company, Ferdie held various positions such as, Trustee and President, a position he held for over two decades; and
WHEREAS, a successful lifetime mechanic, Ferdie owned his own gas station and repair shop. He later retired as a Mechanic Supervisor for Laidlaw Bus Company; and
WHEREAS, in his retirement, Ferdie remained active in the community. He was involved in the following: Knights of Columbus, West Mifflin #2 Bingo, the community street fair, park watchmen, school crossing guard, and an active grandparent member of the PTA; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, September 5, 2021, a celebration of Ferdie’s life will take place;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Vice President Bob Macey, do hereby honor the life, memory and legacy of Ferdie Sauer, and I extend condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
