WHEREAS, "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." That quote by Colin Powell depicts the true essence of Mr. David Highfield and his 30 years dedicated to KDKA-TV; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, while a student at Syracuse University, David accepted an internship at KDKA-TV. Later that year, before David even graduated from college, he was offered a full-time position with the news station; and
WHEREAS, over the years, David worked his way up at KDKA from writer, producer and eventually became a reporter; and
WHEREAS, David has covered a number of notable news events such as: visits to the U.S. by Pope Francis and Pope Benedict; the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech; aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; the tragedy at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue in 2018; the death of Mayor Bob O’Connor; the crash of Flight 427; Richard Baumhammers’ shooting spree in 2000; and the 9/11 attack from both Shanksville and the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, some of David’s reports have aired on several news stations across the country, such as WCBS in New York and KCBS in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, David anchors KDKA’s morning newscast “Your Day Pittsburgh” with Heather Abraham.
The two of them also host “Pittsburgh Today Live,” a daily lifestyle/talk show; and
WHEREAS, David has received several accolades over the years, such as 12 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and Golden Quills; and
WHEREAS, in addition to anchoring duties, David is passionate about donating his time to local charities including The KDKA-TV Turkey Fund, Animal Friends, Persad Center, Hair Peace, American Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County;
